We spend 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week sitting at a desk it is important to keep in mind your well-being at your workplace. For most of us this is pushed off to the side but why should it be? You spend majority of your time at work so it’s important to have a routine that focuses on your health and wellness.
That is why we are sharing our top 4 tips to improve your well-being at work:
I know some of you are thinking to yourselves, “I wish” or “easier said than done.” By no means are we suggesting you step out to grab a coffee or snack every hour but simple things like getting up to go to the washroom or walking over to speak with a colleague to ask how your day is going. It could even be as simple as looking away from your computer screen every 20 minutes for 20 seconds this will help to avoid eye strain.
This is the most common tip but it is often overlooked. When getting to work instead of taking the elevator, take the stairs, when you are heading to grab a coffee or going for lunch take the stairs! The importance of incorporating movement throughout your day is key.
Another simple yet overlooked tip. Sitting all day can be your worst enemy but not if you do it right. Always keep your posture in mind for a healthy spine and to prevent neck and back pain. If you notice yourself slouching correct your position and continue to do so until it comes naturally. Make sure your chair is the right height for your desk and that your arms are at a 90 degree angle when typing!
To help minimize muscle tightness or pain it’s important to include stretches in your daily routine. Stretching helps keep your muscles healthy and improves flexibility! You don’t even have to leave your desk. You can do simple arms stretches, wrist and shoulder rolls and leg stretching from the comfort of your office chair.
Are you ready to put your health and wellness first at work? Take breaks, use the stairs, sit right and stretch frequently!
